"How can retrofitted transport infrastructre create innovative & vibrant social spaces for people that impacts positevley on local identity?"
Conclusions
In order to address this question, a set of qualities that were considered vital in achieving successful social spaces were developed through research conducted in a review of literature, Issues I work, an evaluation of case studies and finally through the application and development of design actions in order to create these qualities in a test site, in this case Milton Keynes
As a product of this research a set of generic design principles have been developed that may help a future designer working on this issue to achieve the qualities that have been identified. They have been created with a broad enough framework that may be applied anywhere within the UK
The principles highlight the key actions that have been identified within the scope of this research that enable the quality to be designed for at the density of roughly 200-500 people per hectare.
The issue of designing places that encourage and respond to social spaces has been a valuable....and challenging topic to research. Socially active environments designed for people are of critical importance for creating places where people want to stay. live and work in, helping to improve the everyday environment for people and potentially fostering positive community attitudes.
